3ds max: file formats with embedded alpha channel?

Post reply

Kris
What image format, other than targa, allows for embedded alphas?
Etnic Evil
Psd
Kris
I need to render to it
Shawn
Kris, PNG? ...assuming you arent using photoshop
Ted Town
Hooray for png Photoshop doesn't do so bad
Shawn
If you are using photoshop the PNG support is abysmal
Ted Town
It manages to pick a reasonably good combination of filters and flags No complaints Gimp's support is good too
Shawn
It wont save out an alpha channel, it assumes that you are using it for transparency so you have to "make" your alpha with the eraser
Ted Town
I was a huge anti-canvas-transparency person back when they introduced that But then it really grew on me
Shawn
Not everybody is using the alpha channel for transparency
Ted Town
Oh, you mean it only uses the alpha channel? Never noticed that
Shawn
DDS also supports alpha channels obviously Bitmap does also if I recall correctly If you like several meg images
Ted Town
Heh Bmp does in some strange variant
Kris
Hm Thx a lot!
