3dsmax : attaching an object to the hand

Post reply

Gloski
scenario: I have a walking guy, animated. now I have an object - editable mesh, that I want him to have in one of his hands how do I do this? I don't want to make the object part of the same mesh as the walking dude
Ted Town
put a linked xform modifier on it, link a helper object, and then position constrain your object to the helper when you need it
Gloski
nice, thank you
Ted Town
as Ive never animated anything in my life, take that with a grain of salt or the whole tin

make a rigid body collection selecting both, object and the hand? i presume..then set the hand not to act on bouce on cup but cup act on bouce from hand motion..so if the cup was hanging from 1 finger..and you straighteed the finger..the cup would glide over it and fall down..spinning..

hm.., have to admit you're a bit above my level.. ^^, but I think I got an idea atleast thx :D Ted Town: briliant solution, worked, now all I have to do is figure out how I'm gonna get it to atach directly to his arm :)
