3dsmax : Meshsmooth problem

Whenever I use meshsmooth it deforms my object really badly. Even on the lowest settings. What am I doing wrong?

if you are using mesh smooth you have to design the model knowing you are using mesh smooth im not sure if that was a clear statement

It's low-poly modeling with the intent to subpatch (meshsmooth is a subpatcher, and not really a great one)
