| subject: Professor of Professional Education , Savannah College of Art and Design Savannah College of Art and Design is looking for Professor of Professional Education duration - Indefinite Job details: The Professional Education department at SCAD prepares artists to become highly qualified and effective educators by developing the practical and theoretical expertise needed to creatively address the changing contexts and varied needs of the P-12 students and communities they serve. In order to accomplish the high level of preparation necessary, candidates learn how to use their creative knowledge and processes as a vehicle for artistic inspiration and content integration. They learn to consider the social and cultural environments in which they and their students operate. To ensure continued professional development, candidates reflect upon their work, gathering evidence to improve and to invent new ways to effectively reach all students. The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks candidates for fulltime faculty in the department of professional education for Summer and Fall 2007. Qualified candidates are required to have a Ph.D. or Ed.D., preferably in arts education (visual arts and/or performing arts), or a related field, as well as recent P-12 experience in the classroom or through applied action research. College level administration and teaching experience is highly preferred. A strong teaching portfolio and/or field experience is essential. Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate outstanding teaching methods and will present a body of student work reflecting classroom and practicum achievements. Other positive attributes are: • Ability to establish and reach high standards for student performance • Extensive knowledge of art content pedagogy and professional pedagogy • Experience with standards-based teaching and learning and with performance assessment • Extensive knowledge of direct art instruction and the use of integrated arts to improve learning in other content areas • Experience as a practicing artist or art historian • Experience participating in a professional learning community • Experience supervising field placements and clinical practice • Knowledge of art history and art making from many cultures around the world • Facility with the use of technology to improve learning • Knowledge of diverse approaches to teaching and learning that reach all students • Disposition to examine and improve professional practice through collaborative inquiry Expertise in a technical environment will be helpful, as most topics are presented in one of our state-of-the-art facilities including drama/theatrical venues or studio classrooms utilizing Macintosh workstations configured with state-of-the-art hardware and software. These include the Adobe product line, including After Effects; Macromedia MX products including Flash, Director and Dreamweaver; and QuarkXPress. In addition to teaching, advising, field supervision and departmental support responsibilities, faculty will have the opportunity for research and professional development, and will take an active role in college wide teaching and learning initiatives.
