xsi5: cloning with rotation around a point

Post reply

AmberPrince
Hi I'm trying to clone my object so that the clone rotates around a given point. How can I do it? Right now I'm trying to move the pivot to the correct place, but when I start rotating It moves back.
Rod Sigler
How do you move the pivot?
AmberPrince
With the alt key, how else?
Rod Sigler
Well, you should move the object center itself. Look in the select panel you will see the Center button. Press it and move it where you need. Don't press alt while doing it :)

There are more ways to do it. One is to animate the object then use the duplicate from animation. This is the most intuitive way to do it since you see how the object is transforming.. Another way to achive what you need is to move the center of the object to the point around which you want to clone the object. Do do this you can press alt and move the center, modify object pivot should be on for this to work. Otherwise you move only the temporary pivot for modeling. Or just use the select center filter to select and move the center like Rod Sigler suggested. Hope this helps. Cheers!
