Job details: Technical Artist The Collective is looking for a Technical Artist to be the bridge between art and technology. They will be working with Artists, Animators and Programmers to develop new pipelines, techniques and optimizations that will improve workflow and game performance, while improving the quality of in-game art content. The individual in this role must be a pro-active problem solvers who demonstrates a strong technical knowledge as well as a sense of creativity and respect for aesthetics.
We welcome candidates coming from the film and commercial industries. These applicants will be expected to learn and understand how game-play and hardware limitations can affect content creation for games, and how to successfully develop workflows to compensate for such restrictions on art and animation assets.
Responsibilities
Help to plan, develop and maintain asset pipelines between the Art, Animation and Programming departments
Support the Art and Animation departments with tools that streamline workflow
To create and refine character rigs of varying complexites using Maya
To anticipate potential issues and develop solutions to various production problems in the CG pipelines
Work with the Art, Animation and Programming Leads to plan for and evaluate the technical needs of each project
To be familiar with technical aspects of the game engine, and its impact on in-game art
To emphasize and encourage collaboration between Artists, Animators and Programmers.
Requirements
4+ years experience in film or game development building and rigging chararcters of varying complexities
4 + years experience using Maya in a film or game production environment
A good understanding of computer/game hardware, next generation hardware, character skeletons, image manipulation tools, command line systems, inverse and forward kinematics, shader systems, lighting, and two or more 3D software packages
The ability to write intermediate level scripts and expressions within a CG package (i.e. MEL scripting) to improve the overall efficiency of artist tasks
Strong technical background
Knowledge of animation systems
Pro Active and a desire to work with a team
Skills
The ability to think creatively to resolve technical challenges and limitations
Excellent skills in documenting processes
The ability to clearly communicate technical concepts
Plusses
Experience using Havok
Experience with blend shapes or other advanced deformers
Strong foundation in the traditional art and/or animation
A passion for games

Demo reel required. Reels can be VHS, DVD or CD. VHS and DVD need to be NTSC (no PAL). Demo reels can also be in the form of a web-link to a digital, internet portfolio.
Reels must include a shot list, specifically explaining what you did on each shot, and where applicable, what software was used.
