Location: Calabasas, CA (preferred) or Walnut Creek, CA
Education: Bachelors Degree
Experience: 5+ years technical, 2+ as lead
Reports to: Chief Architect
This position is responsible for leading the architecture and design of Emergents cross-platform, highly flexible client / server pipeline. A key role will be mapping out technology options against the process problems associated with rapid iteration of content, both art assets and game play logic, in the development of large-scale games. Working with the chief architect, product managers and engineering leads to establish the vision of our product line, this role also has a strong communication component across the product teams and with customers. Long term and short term improvements to basic technology and workflow processes will be generated and fed back into the full Emergent product line, with an important role in the green-light product development process. Of particular interest are: data-driven content systems; rapid iteration, even at full production scale; pipeline reliability; automation and parallelism; process visibility; flexibility across multiple game genres, platforms and development methodologies. A strong ability to communicate in the engineering, artist and management vernacular is mandatory, both internal to Emergent and with our early adopter customer studios.
This role requires a strong desire and proven ability to take a leadership role in advancing the craft of game development.
Candidates must have:
5+ years experience with large-scale production pipelines from multiple game genres.
Experience with Win32 and console development tools.
Solid understanding of the software lifecycle and development methodologies.
Familiarity with process metrics and continual process improvement.
Familiarity with the data import/export cycle for rapid iteration of content (both art and game logic), and scalable, automated build processes for continual integration testing and rapid deployment back to the development team.
A strong understanding of automation in the production process in general and automated build / test / measure / distribute in specific.
Solid communication and design skills.
Valued Skills:
MMO game development and/or operations experience is an asset.
Scripting languages such as Python, Perl, Javascript, and others.
Database integration experience, in terms of a highly automated, scalable production pipeline.
