Job details: 2D/3D Artist Description

The position utilizes traditional art training and a knowledge of computer graphics software to produce art and/or animation for various types of game genres and technical operating platforms. At a more advanced level, the position may serve additional capacities as Lead Artist or Animator on a project-by-project basis, at the discretion of product development.

Job Description:
Work with team leaders and peers to deliver the highest quality art assets possible for the assigned game platform within the technical constraints of the platform.
Develop 2D or 3D art and/or animation in 3DSMAX, Photoshop and proprietary software, convert to game format and make refinements as directed.
Assist as needed in the generation of additional art assets for the project.

Reports to:
Art lead for project-related updates or needs.
Art group manager for career-related or art group-related issues and needs.

Responsibilities:
Maintain the art style of the project by working closely with the art lead and lead programmer to successfully execute the game design.
Identify art tool needs and communicate needs to art lead.
Provide 2D or 3D art assets in the form of 2D sprites, textures or models and adjust art as needed according to technical and client needs.
Develop 3D art in 3DSMAX software, render out best quality possible to described format with attention to scale of world, polygonal limits and texture mapping.
Manage individual work schedule and alerts art lead to any changes in planned schedule or tasks.
Seek out guidance from art lead and other experienced artists to provide the best quality artwork and most efficient methodologies.

Qualifications:
Preference given to candidates with game industry experience, but a strong portfolio and advanced art degree (Bachelors degree) may be sufficient.
Must be willing to work within team environment and accept direction from art lead, project manager and product development.
Demonstrated ability to work within provided structure and with attention to production schedules.
Experience with 3DSMAX 3.1 (or related 3D art software package) or later and Photoshop 5.5 or later.
Must be willing to learn to document art process and track tasks throughout game development cycle.
Must have a positive attitude and be a team player.
Must have a passion to create the best quality artwork possible for any game genre or platform that is assigned.


Portfolio contents:
Samples of 2D artwork demonstrate drawing and color composition skill, quick-pose figure sketches, design and textures.
Sample .3dsmax files or still images that demonstrate low-poly modeling (both un-textured and wire frame images), texture mapping and rendered images. Animation should include: walk cycles, jumps, attacks and reactions and demonstrate knowledge of basic animation principles such as timing, anticipation, squash-and-stretch, overlapping and secondary motion, etc.
Samples of conversion of high-resolution artwork to low-resolution artwork are desirable.
3D artwork provided on a CD or website (quick loading only please!)
Please do not include any file formats that require installing DivX Codec use .avi or .mov formats for video clips. Do not send demos larger than 50Mb.
Please provide a demo reel guide document that describes the specific work and technical descriptions.
