Job details: Level Designer Description:
The responsibility of our level designers is to create playable mock-ups of game levels in engine while working from designs documents, rough map layouts, and concept drawings.
Level designers are required to create interior and exterior structures and place them strategically throughout the level with engaging game play in mind.
Level designers must also be able to place pathfinding data and help design player interaction. This artist will also be responsible to help finesse the look of a level with well designed lighting, and a strong artistic attention to detail.
The ability to communicate effectively and collaborate successfully with game designers, art directors, producers, concept, and environment artist is essential. Level designers need to be able to help coordinate and maintain scheduled task, communicate progress, identify obstacles, and help improve workflow.
Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of major 3D package (e.g., 3DS MAX, Maya, Softimage).
Thorough knowledge of at least major game editor but preferably the UnrealEd Editor (e.g., UnrealEd, QERadiant, Hammer).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability and willingness to accept and follow direction, collaborate productively with others, and work "crunch time" to meet deadlines as necessary.
Positive, professional attitude. Disciplined and self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
Ability to think creatively and analytically.
Excellent organizational skills. Ability to multitask effectively, prioritizes competing demands, and follow through on details. Must be flexible enough to deal with changing role requirements.
Passionate about games and able to articulate that passion clearly and analytically. A broad knowledge base of console and PC games.
Secondary education degree or equivalent.
Sample Work Required:
Applicants should submit level samples in a playable format (preferably an Unreal level). Include a written description of each sample, identifying in detail your contribution to the level. Online or CD submissions preferred.
Any supplemental materials demonstrating skills relevant to this position are also encouraged (e.g., documentation or writing samples, architectural drawings).
