Job Description:
The Technical Artist is relied on to use his art and engineering skills to bridge the gap between disciplines. The Technical Artist reports to the Art Manager and works with the art team to identify problems and pipeline inefficiencies and create solutions that ensure the art assets are integrated into the game engine without sacrificing artistic integrity.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, improve, and enhance tool and process solutions for artists and designers
Proactively seek out inefficiencies in existing pipelines and identify potential problems
Assist programmers and designers in researching and developing new game features
Assist in checking art content against technical guidelines prior to integration
Debug skeletons, models, shaders
Communicate technical concepts to the art team
Produce and integrate art assets where necessary
Write level scripts and expressions within Maya to improve artists efficiency
Qualifications/Education:
2+ years experience in the game industry or 5+ years in 3D Computer Graphics Industry
At least 2 games that shipped
Bachelors degree in fine arts or similar is preferred
Solid understanding and demonstrated ability to work on 3DS MAX, Maya or equivalent 3D Software
Ability to write Maya plug-ins; experience with XML a plus
Demonstrated initiative (proactive) and strong aptitude for problem solving CG issues
Ability to think creatively to develop solutions for technical challenges
Excellent organizational skills; Strong understanding of good asset management practices
Ability to communicate ideas effectively to members of the project team, including members in disciplines other than art
Knowledge and understanding of the following: console hardware (next-gen preferred), particle systems, inverse and forward kinematics, character skeletons, shader systems, lighting, compression, rendering
Unreal experience highly desired
