Job details: Lead Technical Artist - RTS Mad Doc Software is looking for a Lead Technical Artist to help us create the next generation of scintillating art for a highly ambitious PC project. The Lead Technical Artist will help develop and drive all aspects of technical development planning, implementation, and monitoring related to art. Candidates must have a solid understanding and experience with all concentrations of PC art development including Direct X9 shaders, character rigging, modeling, lighting, unwrapping, texturing, and particles.
Portfolio may include art work and or examples of shipped titles that exhibit candidates work or involvement related to the proficiency and optimization of game art or art process.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organize and drive all aspects of next-gen PC production for the project which includes characters, environments, and special effects.
Work with the team to create balanced solutions to all related technical and aesthetic issues.
Help to define standards for the character animation blending, modeling, special effects, environment, shaders, lighting and direct efforts with each team as needed
Facilitate the production pipeline by monitoring the efficiency of and implementing art assets into game via xml editing and exporting models and textures
Establish and communicate effective optimization guidelines for artists including lods, poly-counts, texture sizes, etc.
Communicate and coordinate efforts related to all aspects of game production between art, design, and programming.
Report to the Art Director and mentors the Animation team.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors Degree in Traditional Art from a competitive program preferred.
3+ years of experience of modeling, unwrapping, and texturing
Proven industry experience as technical artist on at least one shipped title
Understanding and experience with Direct X9 Shaders such as normal, specular, occlusion, etc.
Expert-level skill in Photoshop.
Expert-level skill in 3D Studio Max or equivalent 3D program.
Experience with Z-Brush is a plus
Good visualization skills around production processes and tools.
Strong technical background and a strong understanding of advanced modeling and texturing techniques and their applications to games.
Problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a self-directed manner and to make timely, well-thought out decisions.
Strong mentoring skills. Must be able to give constructive evaluation regarding production and performance. Must be able to help others reach their potential.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must speak Art, Design and Dev.
A passion for game development.
