Perpetual Entertainment is looking for Technical Artist

Job details: Technical Artist The Technical Artist is the primary liaison between the Engineering and Art departments. Working with the programming team the Technical Artist will help determine and collaborate on the development of Export path issues, shader development and all other art team tools and methodologies. The Technical Artist is focused the production of all art assets, ensuring their integrity as they move through design, modeling, texturing, animation, export and ultimately in-game.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Diagnose and solve technical problems related to art assets
Answer technical questions from artists
Help artists to optimize their workflow
Help define an asset creation process for all aspects of production using the appropriate software and tools.
Communicate technical problems to engineering
Help identify and design new art tools
Maintain wiki technical art documentation
Maintain artist and level designer tools crafted to expand production workflow and capabilities with a strong service mentality.
Provide a communication bridge between the art and technology teams.
Help to define and maintain production pipeline, process and workflow.
Track down problems in current systems, produce test cases, determine the best course of action, and implement fixes.


QUALIFICATIONS

The following is a list including, but not limited to, several essential attributes you must possess:
Prior professional game development experience
Intimate knowledge of Maya/ Mel/Photoshop and other industry art tools.
Strong understanding of animation systems, rigging characters
Fluent knowledge of texture painting and UV application skills required
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Strong communication skills, with both non-technical artists, and engineers
Quick to learn new skills and pass those skills onto others
Experience with real-time shaders is a plus, experience writing shaders (cG, HLSL etc.), professional experience applying shader effects (e.g. specular maps, normal maps).
Have a strong understanding of games and game asset creation
Ability to model, texture, and light 3D Characters to a HIGH level of quality
Ability to quickly disseminate and communicate pipeline issues and solutions
Excellent problem solving skills
Must be willing to work overtime when requested.

DESIRED

MMO Gaming knowledge.
Knowledge of programming principles and techniques, algorithms, and data structures.
Basic understanding of design elements, color theory, anatomy, drawing and painting.
Broad knowledge of computing technology and console hardware.
Working knowledge of web technologies (html, php, mySQL, javascript)
Working knowledge of scripting languages (perl, python)
Experience and interest in designing art pipelines
Console game development experience
Ability to provide quality critiques
A passion for game development

SAMPLE WORK REQUIRED

Samples of 3D work, (online, CD, or DVD format). Would prefer to see both 3D assets and in-game assets. Layers of materials / textures / shaders used and breakdowns of such also recommended.
Samples of traditional skills, sketchbook, drawings, paintings, etc.
All samples should be accompanied by a description of each, with specific information on what you were responsible for, what tools were used, etc.
