Job details: SENIOR LEVEL DESIGNER
Responsibilities
o Design, create, implement, and iterate fun and compelling gameplay. Satisfy the specifications established by design leads and coordinators at a high quality level and within the required timeframe.
o Use proprietary level editor to implement playable levels, including building rough terrain and placing structures, gameplay objects, and NPCs.
o Integrate feedback from team playthroughs, usability testing, and reviews with design leads and coordinators.
o Take high-level design specifications and create detailed documentation for each level, including overhead maps and expected scenario walkthroughs. Create and maintain detailed, up-to-date specs, asset lists, and other design documents as needed.
o Provide input on the game's vision and help champion that vision to other team members.
o Collaborate with designers, programmers, artists, audio and others to facilitate the most appropriate outcome in regards to vision, budget, schedule, and quality.
o Help create, maintain, and optimize processes. Keep leads and managers advised of progress on scheduled tasks, potential improvements to pipelines, and problems or inefficiencies encountered.
o Keep up with competitive products and upcoming releases.
o May be tasked with other duties and responsibilities in support of the project design team.
Qualifications
o At least 2 complete product cycles as a professional level designer in the industry. Proven track record with AAA console products preferred.
o High level of proficiency with 3D editors (e.g., UnrealED, Source, QERadiant, CryTek's Sandbox). Ability to quickly learn and adapt to proprietary editors and project pipelines.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
o Ability and willingness to accept and follow direction, collaborate productively with others, and work hard to meet deadlines as necessary.
o Positive, professional attitude. Disciplined and self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
o Ability to think creatively and analytically. An in-depth understanding of how gameplay works and how to create fun, meaningful experiences for the player.
o Excellent organizational skills. Ability to multitask effectively, prioritize competing demands, and follow through on details. Must be flexible enough to deal with changing role requirements.
o Passion for games and ability to articulate that passion clearly and analytically. A broad knowledge base of console and PC games.
o College degree or equivalent.
Sample Work Required
o Applicants should submit playable samples of their work. Include a written description of each sample, identifying in detail your contribution. Please send a CD or submit online. If your sample shipped in a retail product, please provide a copy of the game if possible. Also include a save file that enables easy access to your level. Retail games submitted as samples will be returned to the applicant after the sample has been reviewed.
o Any supplemental materials demonstrating skills relevant to this position are also encouraged.
