Job Description
Take responsibility for the completion of all art-related tasks for the project that has been assigned by the Art Director
Contribute to daily art production efforts.
Adapt to the art style of the game and assist art team to deliver assets consistent with it and provided reference material.
Check all art work on target platform before considering it complete.
Break down the art tasks and plans for their implementation.
Assist in the development of concept materials and production designs as required.
Keep the art pipeline on schedule
Schedule and delegate the creation and maintenance of art assets to the team's artists as required by the Art Director
Track art resources and the development of art assets.
Verify that art assets are completed on time and meet the requirements of the game.
Create, maintain, and enforce a clear, clean directory structure for all art assets.
Manage the Q/A and integration of all art assets.
Work to limit required rework.
Delivering quality work as scheduled in accordance with the production design, product requirements, and producer direction.
Work closely with other members of the assigned project.
Work closely with the game designers & Art Director to define all of the product's art production requirements.
Work with the game programmer to ensure feasibility of the art implementation plan.
Work with the artists to establish realistic schedules for the delivery of their assignments.
Working with the producer to find creative solutions when problems arise, evaluate feature, schedule, and resource trade-offs, and make informed, long-term recommendations.
Develop and maintain knowledge of the development tools and processes, target platforms, and competitive products.
Master the platform requirements, art environment, tools, and utilities.
Know technical design requirements for the target platform and design with those in mind.
Understand advantages and limitations of target hardware.
Develop strategies for maximizing platform performance.
Understand the production process and its many dependencies.
Become knowledgeable of the status of in-house development efforts and encourage the collaborative use of existing technology whenever possible.
Supervise other Artists, both internally and externally, as needed and as required by the Art Director
Work as the lead member of the art staff.
Set a positive example for the team and lead by example.
Provide on-going training and support to art team on utilized software tools.
Train and developing art staff to grow as promotable employees.
Actively participate in the candidate selection and interview process.
Ensuring that all artists understand their complete job description.
Establish reasonable and consistent performance expectations that all artists know. Constantly review and confirm that the appropriate precedence is being set.
Participate in scheduled reviews for all artists.
Have regular one-on-one sessions with team members.
Pro-actively evaluate artists to identify areas of growth.
Track and document artist behaviors and performance.
Confront and addressing all inappropriate business behavior among art staff. Communicate all such behavior to the producer.
Make effective, timely termination recommendations.
Bring innovative and creative ideas to the group both visually and technically.
Active contributing to the ongoing game design/development process.
Requirements
Excellent drawing skills.
A broad knowledge of illustration, art design, and animation
The ability to imitate the different artistic styles of different licenses.
Experience using Photoshop and Microsoft Office. Experience with additional 2D packages a plus.
Experience with Microsoft Project a plus.
The ability to work digitally.
Technically adept. (The potential to be comfortable using new graphic compiling tools including those developed in-house.)
A willingness to learn the game development process
Experience in actual game development preferred
Strong problem solving and excellent communications skills.
Demonstrated leadership, management and organizational skills
Effective oral and written communication skills
