Job details: Senior Artist GUI/Special Effects BioWare Austin is seeking candidates for the position of Senior Artist GUI/Special Effects to help deliver a high quality game to market. The Senior Artist GUI/Special Effects is an individual contributor on the art team. This position creates user interfaces and special effects under the direction of the lead client engineer.
Responsibilities
Works with the art director and design team to develop and implement our game's GUI.
Creation of effects using our particle creation tool.
Production of 3D assets for the game.
Participates in the design of products and performs some testing.
Works with designers, programmers and other personnel involved in the development of products.
Produces documentation for other artists' and designers' use.
As directed, interacts with peers or managers in other units/teams/projects and/or vendors.
Minimum education: University degree or vocation training in Art is strongly preferred.
Experience and Qualifications
3-5 years of experience in computer art.
Two or more shipped game titles.
Photoshop expertise.
Able to identify and solve problems creatively without guidance.
Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment is required.
Time management and organizational skills are essential.
Excellent attention to detail is essential.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred.
Preference towards applicants that exhibit:
o Technically savvy with strong problem solving skills.
o Some management experience of a team or outsource pipeline.
o Expert-level 3DSMAX user.
Portfolio Requirements
All portfolios must contain a detailed shot breakdown of the work. It must be very clear what you, the applicant, are responsible for in your reel, screenshots, scanned pictures, web page portfolio, etc. We would also like you to include your name in the subject line of your emailed application, as well as the competition number of the position(s) that you are applying for.
Please submit a portfolio, including some (or all) of the following:
3D portfolio
Modeling, texturing, and lighting applied to exterior architecture.
Modeling, texturing, and lighting applied to interior architecture and design.
Natural / organic environments.
Plusses:
Examples of the above in a low poly format.
Modeling, texturing, applied to scene prop objects.
Modeling, texturing, applied to the human figure, animals, or character designs.
Unwrapped textures applied to buildings, characters, and organics.
Effects animation both natural and fantastical.
Various animations applied to ambient objects and characters.
2D portfolio (no originals please)
Architectural rendering.
Color work and examples of tonal coordination.
Environmental design both interior and exterior.
Figure drawing.
Conceptual drawings applied to architecture, natural environments, props, etc.
Technical drawing.
