Midway Games is looking for Sr. Environment Artist
Job details: Midway Games, Austin, is seeking a talented and experienced 3D artist to lead environment artists working on a state of the art, console, real-time engine. Applicants should be skilled in level construction and building realistic models of architecture, terrain and props. Applicants should also have experience working within technical design parameters of a game engine, the ability to work from concepts and the ability to collaborate within a team environment to create the visually stunning results required for AAA titles.
The Environment Lead Artist will:
Work closely with the Art Director to ensure high quality environment art work.
Manage environment artists to assist teams with tasks.
Model, texture, and light 3D environments for a state of the art next-gen game engine.
Manage technical aspects of environments, including high-res source geometry, shader creation, damage states, and collision.
Work with the development director to schedule and track environment art efforts.
Work in a variety of artistic styles and game genres, including realism, sci-fi and fantasy.
Meet project deadlines and milestones as set by project leads.
Mentor environment artists in best practices and processes.
Take an active role in recruiting and hiring environment artists.
Take an active role in budgeting group needs.
Assist the team in environment outsource initiatives, if needed.
Requirements: The ideal candidate should:
Be capable of creating any aspect of a 3D game environment including modeling, texturing, and lighting of terrain, architecture, world objects and collisions.
Possess strong leadership skills necessary to effectively delegate tasks and motivate junior members of the environment art team.
Possess exemplary oral and written communication skills
Be receptive to working in collaboration with game teams (being a liaison between game teams and the centralized environment group).
Have a strong technical aptitude for 3D modeling tools and game engine technologies.
Be able to combine ideas and methodologies of environment production to create an efficient, streamlined pipeline that other environment artists can follow.
Have experience working and directing in a wide range of artistic styles and maintaining the appropriate styles over the course of the project.
Have a strong comprehension of architecture and landscape.
Have a fluent knowledge of Maya or 3ds Max and Photoshop.
Have used 3D shaders.
Have excellent lighting skills.
Have some experience with animated environment effects (such as particles).
Have six years of applicable industry experience and at least 2 years of team lead experience.
Have a genuine enthusiasm and interest in video games.
