Job details: Lead Artist The Lead Artists main roles are to oversee the development of game art by a team of artists, and to collaborate with the Art Director to set the aesthetic quality level. The Lead Artist works closely with the Project Manager and Art Director to address all issues related to the development of art for the project within a pre-defined schedule and budget.
Responsibilities:
Design, model & texture 3D characters and environments.
Aid the team technically & artistically to carry out the Art Directors vision
Responsible for working with the Art Director & Lead Designer in creating and maintaining the look and vision of the game
Handles technical aspects of the art team: art processes, tools, budgets, texture budgets, task definitions & all pipeline issues
Identify and resolve art related risks in the project
Responsible for artist management & productivity of the art team
Work with the Project Manager to establish and maintain schedules for all art staff
Implement & maintain quality control & performance guidelines for all game assets
Work with the tools and technology team to ensure that the team has the tools necessary to complete the project in a timeframe and budget as outlined by the Project Manager
Recognize and develop talent on the team
Hold weekly one-on-ones with the art staff to review team progress, provide feedback and encouragement, and to assess any potential issues/concerns
Demonstrate, communicate and exemplify clear expectations for quality of work, productivity, communication and professionalism to the team.
Partners closely with Leads from Design, Engineering and Sound to deliver the project on time.
Communicate technical guidelines for art creation and runtime implementation to the team
Maintain and communicate a strong knowledge of innovative game production technologies and the capabilities/limitations of these technologies as they relate to the project goals.
Develop, maintain and trouble shoot art pipeline
Required:
Extensive experience with 3D Studio Max or Maya and Photoshop
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
Desired:
Game design and/or creative writing experience
Passion for gaming
A significant contribution as a modeler / texture artist on at least two games
Experience:
At least 5 years of game art or animation experience
At least 2 years of team lead experience
All candidates must deliver a full resume with art samples to be considered
for this position. A Website and/or downloadable demo reel is preferred
