Visual Effects Artist
Job Summary
Responsible for creating awesome visual effects for handheld and next-gen console games. Work in a collaborative environment that allows talented people to make their own mark on our games.
Job Responsibilities
Create outstanding visual effects for PSP and next-gen console titles using a proprietary, XML driven effects system
Follow concept art, story boards, written descriptions and scripts
Create effects to include particles and shaders to simulate the effects of explosions, fireworks, smoke, fire, steam, fog, rain, flowing water, etc.
Create effects mock-ups for evaluation
Work closely with effects system programmers and scripters
Work within sprite and texture budgets for handheld game systems
Work to given deadlines and schedules
Work in a dynamic team environment where individual effort is crucial to the completed project
Produce a weekly report listing Achievements (As) and Objectives (Os) every Monday morning using a standardized report format to your supervisor
o The Achievements section provides an accurate account of the progress made on his/her Objectives set from the previous week
o The Objectives section reflects scheduled tasks and meetings for the week ahead and other goals which may not be reflected in the schedule
Job Requirements
Applicable BFA in Art related field (Computer Animation, 3D modeling, Film, Video
Minimum 2 years creating effects for video games
At least 1 shipped title on console or handheld platform working as an effects artist
Strong skills in 3D graphics, particle systems, dynamics, shaders, etc.
Solid technical art skills, including scripting
Excellent spatial awareness skills
Comfortable working in a primarily data driven effects system.
Excellent working knowledge of all game development tools (Maya/Alias, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop, custom tools, etc.)
Ability to quickly learn proprietary tools and development processes
Ability to work successfully in a large team of other artists, programmers, and game designers
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organization skills
Strong work ethic, self-direction and artistic vision, dedicated work ethic
A passion for games and effects

Plusses
Experience creating stunning effects with small numbers of sprites and textures
Ability to create textures that can be used for a wide variety of FX.
Understanding of 2D and 3D effects possibilities.
