Electronic Arts Tiburon is looking for Senior Environment Modeler
duration - Full Time
Job details: Senior Environment Modeler Candidates for Modeling positions must demonstrate an ability to:
o Think in 3D
o Excellent craftsmanship
o A portfolio demonstrating the following is required:
o Drawing skills
o Excellent sense of form, weight (mass), and volume
o Good use of light and shadow
o Breadth of artistic styles
o Excellent sense of scale
o Excellent level of finish
REQUIREMENTS:
o Experience on a minimum of 6-8 complete titles/productions that have shipped, experience with either character driven titles or feature film are highly desirable.
o Proven ability to visualize and model human anatomy (including faces) and animal type characters with a high level of proficiency, including skinning/physiquing/weighting of models to skeletons.
o History of creating models and environments/levels that adds value to a franchise in a timely basis.
o Demonstrated ability to create basic textures in a timely basis.
UNDERSTANDING:
Demonstrates a strong understanding of following and how they impact models in real time environments:
o How light, texture and motion will affect models and creates models that leverage those design elements to the advantage of the art direction and/or engine
o Scale
o Layout/Composition/Pace
o Fundamentals of visual language
o Experience with at least one major 3D CG package
o Demonstrates a good understanding of:
o Advanced modeling techniques, including use of expressions and scripts
o Various CG texturing methodologies work, including shaders, displacement maps, lighting systems
o For World Design track, an excellent understanding of pace and storytelling
RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Supervises modelers on a large project/franchise
o Expertly creates very high LOD and/or complex models for critical/key areas/assets of a franchise
o Assists Art Directors by participating in pre-production of projects by conducting research into techniques and source/reference materials
o Responsible for level/world/track layout and flow where appropriate. (i.e. Beat boards)
o Creates models that are:
o Memory efficient
o Add to a project's overall visual quality while remaining consistent with the Art Direction.
o Expertly interpreted from various pre-production documents and supervise Junior staff in developing models that further expand o Art Direction
o Maintain a cohesiveness and visual credibility with the project Art Direction
o Model environments to an excellent level of finish
o Completes all work in a timely basis.
o Should be able to work with more advanced modeling Beziers, B-Splines, Sub-Division surfaces and NURBS should be able to complete difficult inorganic models
For World Design Track:
Working with Sr. Art Staff/Game Designers/ design docs/concept drawings:
o Responsible for level/world layouts and flow where appropriate. (i.e. Beat boards)
o Breaks design down into individual levels for more junior modeling including:
o Creates asset lists/project modeling requirements;
o Lays out all levels to correct scale/proportion
o Ensures that all levels/tracks are within style of art direction and game design, scale and budget.
o Where necessary uses physical media (paper, wood, board, etc) to rapidly visualize levels and overall world layout.
o May also:
o Construct intermediate to advanced level of complexity models
o Authoring and/or applying intermediate to advanced level of complexity textures
o Embedding all necessary triggers, events, tags, etc into a level.
o Works with teams? modelers/level builders/world builders to ensure that all levels/world have good flow, tempo, scale, etc.
o Assists Game Designers by participating in pre-production of projects by conducting research into techniques and source/reference materials
o Completes all work in a timely basis.
PROFESSIONAL:
o Mentors junior Modeling artists
o Proactively supports project Art Director.
o Proactively participates in team Critiques; assists modelers and texture artists across
o Remains focused, motivated and effective on a task until completion and project/game for the duration of the project
