Electronic Arts Tiburon is looking for Lighting Supervisor
duration - Full Time
Job details: Lighting Supervisor PREREQUISITES:
Demonstrated ability to:
o Work without direct supervision
o Competently and efficiently complete complex tasks in a timely basis
o Preemptively find solutions to challenging issues within their craft
o Troubleshoot and resolve issues within specialty/overall game.
o Candidates for lighting positions must demonstrate an ability to think in 3D
o A portfolio demonstrating a very high level of proficiency that reveals:
o A strong artistic background (focusing on lighting)
o Good use of light and shadow
o Breadth of artistic styles
o Excellent sense of depth
o Excellent craftsmanship and professional quality finish product
REQUIREMENTS:
o Experience as a key contributor or senior craftsperson, a minimum of 6-8 complete titles or productions that have shipped; experience with either key franchises or feature film are highly desirable.
o Demonstrates an excellent understanding of pre-production (as related to the gaming industry)
o Excellent organization and presentation skills
o Expert level understanding of the many aspects of game production, and how those areas affect the final animation product
o Demonstrated history of:
o Playing a key leadership role on projects
o Supervising teams of Lighters t on time delivery of successful projects
o Innovation and consistent drive to raise standards within the lighting craft, playing a key role in successful, on-time projects
o Mentoring artists within their studio
o Working with Senior and Executive management across a studio to raise the quality of products
o Of developing highly creative and efficient solutions to complex problems through production without affecting integrity of corporate and brand identities
o Expert ability to light all types of characters and environments within major production or title
UNDERSTANDING:
o Demonstrates an expert understanding of the following in real o Time environments:
o Light and shadow
o Form and depth
o Scale
o Layout
o Motion
o Fundamentals of visual language
o Demonstrates a strong understanding of
o Advanced lighting techniques
o Different CG lighting systems
o Experience with at least 2 major 3D CG packages.
o High-level understanding of different aspects of game production and how they affect the final product
o An excellent understanding of pace and storytelling and how they apply to developing game assets
RESPONSIBILITIES:
o From a craft perspective, supervises Lighters across a studio and EA world however necessary during production
o Works with Studio Exec to drive and manage visual issues within a studio
o Proactively researches and develops new techniques for lighting and adapts to the R/T environment
o Reviews all Media Design Documents and Technical Design
Documents for lighting issues; advises respective Lead programmers, ECP, and Studio Exec of any foreseeable issues or concerns. Makes recommendations where appropriate
o Maintains a level of communication with other Lighters and development teams throughout EA
o Attends industry events and stays abreast of new technologies and trends within CG Animation industry
o Within a studio or production group, is ultimately responsible for:
o Proactively working to eliminate problems in the production cycle (ideally before they occur)
o Ensuring that lighting is thorough and complete
o Testing of new concepts or techniques is complete prior to production of title
o Reviewing and providing feedback on lighting documentation
o Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
PROFESSIONAL:
o Adds value to franchises or a studio by using craft to raise overall visual value and quality of game play experience
o Proactively mentors junior Lighter staff; actively helps to establish and spread ?culture? within their studio
o Adds value to franchises or a studio by using craft to raise overall visual value and quality of game play experience
o Conducts reviews of Sr. Lighters with Art Production Managers and/or Development Directors
o Assists with recruiting of Art staff
o Completes all work in a timely manner and drives team to meet key dates
o Expected to learn client management skills
o Supports other Lighter Supervisors across the World of EA
o Works to keep junior art staff effective, focused and motivated for the duration of a project or game
o Conducts reviews of Lighters with Art Production Managers and/or Development Directors; Provides career counseling an direction for Animation Staff
