Job details: The makers of the award-winning and multi-million selling Ratchet and Clank franchise are looking for a Senior Animator to bring the franchise to life on the PlayStation 3.

Summary:
Responsible for creating high quality animations of 3D characters, weapons, vehicles and cameras for both gameplay and cinematic sequences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

-Create high quality animations that help define, maintain and raise the standard for the industry.

-Demonstrate ability to work proficiently and efficiently in all animation styles and genres including realistic, cartoony, creature, human, and lip-synching.

-Collaborate effectively with the rest of the development team, including fellow animators, riggers, storyboard/cinematics artists, character/weapon/vehicle designers, modelers, game designers, production managers and programmers.

-Required to express humor in the office in sarcastic, weird, and oftentimes apolitically correct ways.

-Complete assigned work at the highest possible quality while staying on schedule.

-Work with the programming department and supervisors to create animation lists and properly implement animations into the game engines.

-Work with Lead Animator and Animation Director to refine and develop animation skills.

-Work with Tools Department to suggest and evaluate new tools that would improve and expedite the animation process.

-Required to jam on a guitar (or at least fake it) for our Frag Fest Fridays where Guitar Hero is often featured. Full knowledge of musicology not necessarily required.

-Stay informed about the latest improvements in Maya.

-Maintain a solid understanding of the Insomniac Character Set-up process and be familiar with skeletons, IK, FK, facial animation system, constraints and other systems used for character animation.

-Maintain and continuously improve on computer proficiency and technical problem- solving skills.

-Collect, create and study relevant reference and inspirational material from various sources whenever appropriate, and discuss with fellow animators.

-Understand how to view mobys and run levels to check work.

-Understand how to build mobys and enter emd data by using all the necessary tools.

-Maintain a basic understanding of the entire process of creating cinematics from building partial levels, setting up cameras and characters, animating scenes, and troubleshooting.

-Help to mentor less experienced animators.

-Stay informed on the latest in animation techniques from various sources such as magazines, websites, movies, television, dvds, etc.

Education/Experience:
Three to five years of animation training and experience within the video game industry, covering all of the basic animation principles and techniques.

Computer Skills
Knowledge of Maya 6 or higher, Insomniac proprietary tools and a working knowledge of basic office programs such as Word and Excel.
