Job details: Senior Game Designer The Senior Game Designer is a key team member that helps to create and deliver the overall creative vision of the product.
Key Responsibility:
Reports to the Director of Design; Must have an ability to create a compelling vision from conflicting demands and viewpoints, communicate that vision to the team (and procure team buy-in on critical design issues); to translate the vision into detailed game mechanics, game progression, and interface flow; to implement critical feedback into the game. The Game Designer is also responsible for managing play balancing and tuning. Other Responsibilities include: Ensure design group schedules and priorities are maintained and aligned with overall goals of project. Provide ongoing design direction to design team ensuring consistent quality throughout product. Coordinate with other team leads to establish consistent creative, artistic, audio and technical direction for all aspects of the product; assists with predictability of production process by hitting all key design milestones on time.
Job Duties:
Design major features of the game. Clearly document this design.
Define use cases, requirements and write feature specifications. Manage the implementation of these features.
Balance Gameplay and tune all game mechanics.
Requirements:
Key Skills: The Senior Designer must have a basic understanding of the differences and needs of Serious Games as well as the ability to adapt to and guide the vision of commercial and hit driven products; must have a creative flair and high quality bar for all aspects of game design from narrative/user experience to core mechanics; must have exceptional written and verbal communications skills; must have the ability to interface professionally with a broad range of clients from the corporate, government, and academic worlds to illicit the clearest understanding of the end user and the end product; The Senior Designer must have the ability to maintain objective view of a project and keep functional groups goals aligned; ability to take complex ideas and turn them into specific action plans is a must; ability to make key decisions and balance tradeoffs without sacrificing vision or overall product quality. Possesses strong problem solving skills with the ability to tackle complex problems, devises elegant solutions, and communicates those solutions to others in simple terms. Most importantly, has a strong passion for playing and making games.
Job requirements:
3+ years in the game industry with at least 1 shipped title
Understanding of design concepts, tools and production methodologies
Strong technical skills with a basic understanding of programming
A strong passion for games with the ability to translate that passion into great user experiences
Ability to work well in a team environment
Basic understanding of at least one scripting language: Lua, Python, C++
Basic understanding and ability to use at least one 3D Software Package (Maya, XSI, Max)
Familiarity with Photoshop, Visio, Powerpoint,
Familiarity with Unreal and Sketch-up is a major plus
Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience.
