Job details: Lead Character Artist Surreal Software, a subsidiary of Midway Games, is looking for a Lead Character Artist candidate that can bring life, emotion, and visual impact to its next generation character development.
RESPONSIBILITIES
-Responsible to work directly with the Lead Animator and Project Art Director on following and maintaining the games Style Guide and Technical Guidelines in conception, producing and implementing of character meshes and textures.
-Responsible for collaborating with the Character Team to derive and maintain an accurate delivery schedule.
-Work with the projects Technical Artist to develop an efficient and quality-driven character development pipeline through research and development. This may include package evaluations as well as tools and script development/documentation.
-Work closely with the concept artist to develop character line as well as fully understand visual intentions before going forward with modeling.
-Develop relationships with outside developers on contracted content and maintain a schedule that includes delivery milestones for visual signoff.
-Create cinema quality high resolution characters that can have their texture attributes transferred to a lower resolution, real-time model. This requires clean sub-d and edge loop modeling knowledge as well as creating efficient UV layout and texture creation/application.
-Responsible for testing, implementing and updating characters into the game engine.
-Basic knowledge of animation skeleton setup, weighting and rigging as well as an understanding of blendshape implementation.
-Participate in a weekly Artists and Animators meeting, to communicate the weekly planning and review work in progress.
-Assign, file and fix bugs and enhancement/feature requests.
-Create, test and update FX and material shaders related to characters.
QUALIFICATIONS
-High school diploma or GED required.
-AA/BFA preferred, or at least demonstrates through portfolio an industry standard level of art.
-Must have superior knowledge of human character anatomy, gesture, clothing and character creation principles.
-Minimum of at least one shipped title, preferably on PS2/Xbox or both as a Lead Character Artist.
-Familiar with high resolution modeling (Maya/Zbrush), next generation shading and texturing techniques and a high capacity to learn new tools. Traditional art/concept skills a must.
-Knowledge of Unreal Editor 3 is a plus.
-All candidates must deliver a full resume with samples to be considered for this position.
