Job details: Double Fine has an immediate opening for an ambitious, visionary and highly experienced, Senior Audio Designer for its San Francisco development studio. The primary job responsibility is to design creatively inspiring aural landscapes for our games.
The candidate must exhibit strong creative audio talent, excellent verbal and written communication skills and a high level of understanding of game audio production. The role requires a minimum of six years of audio experience, and at least two published games on the Xbox360, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube or PC. Additional key success factors for this role include good problem solving skills, the ability to work well with others, and a passion for adding the extra polish that truly sets games apart.
Responsibilities:
1) Personally assess the game's audio needs and create an immersive soundscape through original sound design and editing.
2) Work closely with programming, production, design and art to create audio tools and sound specifications that establish a strategic audio plan for each game.
3) Create, edit and mix and remaster original audio content in concert with the project's design vision and style.
4) Integrate audio assets into the game, working with programmers and artists to wire audio into levels, assets, and game systems.
5) Assist with Localization of each product.
6) Manage asset lists, schedules, and external contract work as required. Maintain a meticulous data management system, archive audio assets and build sound banks.
7) Keep leads advised of progress on scheduled tasks, propose improvements to pipelines, and solve problems or inefficiencies.
Keep current with competitive products and upcoming releases.
9) Additional duties and responsibilities in support of the project and company goals.
Requirements:
1) Proven track record over a minimum of six years professional experience in the creation and delivery of award-winning, state-of-the-art, performance-minded game audio with at least two in-game credits on shipped products. Must be fluent in cutting edge techniques for creating real-time audio. Comprehension of the technical details of both current-generation and next-generation platforms is ideal.
2) Strong creative and technical sound design, integration and audio mixing skills.
3) Knowledge of professional audio game engines and developer audio tools. Ability to learn and adapt to proprietary editors and project pipelines.
4) Knowledge of Surround mixing and professional audio equipment set up.
5) Solid understanding of audio signal processing mixing, sample rates, data compression, filters, reverbs, 3D positional audio, etc.
6) Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
7) Ability and willingness to accept critical feedback, follow direction, collaborate productively with others, and work hard to meet deadlines as necessary.
Ability to maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic. Must be disciplined, self-motivated, proactive, team-focused, quality-driven, deadline-conscious, and detail-oriented.
9) Excellent organizational skills. Ability to multitask effectively, prioritize competing demands, and follow through on dependencies and details. Must be flexible enough to deal with changing requirements.
10) A passion for games and audio, and an ability to articulate that passion clearly and analytically from an audio perspective. Must have a broad knowledge base of console and PC games.
11) Commitment to personal and peer development and sharing best practices.
