Rainbow Studios is looking for Senior Technical Character Artist
duration - Full Time
Job details: Senior Technical Character Artist Position Summary: Leads by example and ability in mentoring other artists in the same discipline. Evaluates, innovates, solves problems, and pushes the technical/visual limitations on a given project
Essential Job Functions:
Innovates and solves technical issues for tool development used in game production
R&Ds; with an eye towards visual and technical innovation in dealing with
process and pipeline creation
Documents processes and procedures thoroughly
Pushes and/or defines hardware and art limitations for the project
Mentors other artists in this discipline
Reviews and recommends software for production
Meets deadlines with proficiency
Uses commercially available digital software competently
Designs and implements animation controls for biped, quadruped characters, and props using a combination of software packages and proprietary tools
Develops and maintains character deformation systems
Develops new techniques and processes to solve character production challenges
Collaborates with the animation team to ensure that all rigs meet the titles
requirements
Collaborates with the modeling team to create a model that meets technical
needs.
Develops and evaluates new tools and procedures to optimize animation workflow
Works closely with the tech team to design, debug and evaluate new tools
Remains stationary for long periods of time while working in front of a computer
Manipulates a keyboard, mouse, and/or other input device
Interacts and communicates effectively with management on both a project and
studio level
Performs other similar or related duties as necessary
Experience/Skills:
5-8 years of industry experience
Has shipped multiple current generation or next generation console titles
Maxscript or equivalent experience
Working knowledge of MAX and/or other 3D software package Photoshop, Z-brush,
Alienbrain
Understanding of proprietary tools
Thorough understanding of integration of assets into game
Understanding of scripting, shaders, and other technical issues
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact
effectively
Ability to multi-task and to adapt easily to change
Education/Certification/Licensing: Bachelors (BA) degree from an accredited 4-year college or university or equivalent industry experience
