Job details: Senior Level Designer Job Summary
Avid gamer, with 3D world building experience and an analytical mind, to collaborate with Art team, creating fun and challenging experiences using our proprietary toolset.
Job Responsibilities
- Conceptualizing and planning 3D environments (organic and architectural) with a strong emphasis on gameplay mechanics for first and third person action games in collaboration with the Lead Level Designer and Lead Environment Artist
- Producing articulate documentation detailing innovative game design content and features which is stylistically appropriate for each project; including story lines, mission walkthroughs (with floor plans), character biographies and behaviors, control systems, interface design, and asset inventories.
- Roughing out world geometry, camera paths, and lighting using 3D world-building tools to the extent that the Environment Art team can then embellish what is there to create levels that are both visually stunning and conducive to good gameplay.
- Placing, triggering, and tuning entities (such as characters, movers, and objects) to create fun, absorbing gameplay within assigned levels.
- Mastering internal tools for modeling environments and integrating gameplay.
- Where applicable, assisting with the scripting of gameplay entities and events
- Collaborate with Lead Designer, Lead Level Designer and Design team to refine gameplay mechanics and implementation.
- Creatively resolving gameplay and production issues.
- Meeting production schedules and deadlines.
- Produce a weekly report listing your Accomplishments & Objectives every Monday morning to your immediate supervisor
- Assist Associate/Standard members of staff with guidance on particular techniques, tools, processes and/or best practices as required
- Temporarily ?buddy-up? with a newly hired Associate/Standard member of staff (in the same department and project) to assist with their smooth integration into the project and company
- Report issues or concerns regarding the attitude and/or performance of colleagues should they arise to your immediate supervisor and/or Producer
Job Requirements
- Creative vision and passion for console and PC games.
- Over 2 years of industry level design experience using world-building tools and/or 3DStudioMax or Maya.
- Intimate knowledge of the development process from concept to final product release.
- Ability to produce articulate design documentation detailing innovative gameplay mechanics, interface design, story lines, character biographies, control systems, and asset inventories.
- Maintain knowledge of game features and technologies, as they pertain to gameplay implementation and level optimizations.
Skills
- Ability to accept and provide direction, work well under pressure, and handle multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to collaborate and contribute to the creative process
Pluses
- Degree in Architecture
- Art skills
- Scripting experience
Submission Guidelines:
Portfolios can be delivered in hard copy form, FTP or on a CD.
Include design documentation that shows an understanding of the gameplay experience, such as Moment-to-moment Level Design Walkthroughs or Game Design Documents.
Include any supporting documentation you have created, including Overhead Maps of Levels, Dialog or Cinematic Scripts, or Rough Storyboards.
Include visual in-game examples of your previous work. Screenshots and/or AVI Movies of the 3D Levels or Missions that you have created are preferred.
If you include an example of a 3DSM gameplay level, please deliver it in 3DS format.
Supporting video materials can be on VHS, DVD or CD. VHS and DVD need to be NTSC (no PAL).
If you have a presentation of your work on a Website, please include the URL
