We are looking for a Maverick Animator to take on the role of Lead Cinematic Animator for multiple projects at our Edmonton-based studio.
This is a chance to have massive creative freedom:
You will help the writers achieve emotive excellence through powerful, cinematic moments.
You will build storyboards and animatics based on you own visual style.
You will have direct input on our Cinematic Editor tool.
You will direct cinematic animators fresh off our next-gen title Mass Effect.
You will get to tell epic cinematic moments unlike the fantasy world has ever seen!

Job Summary
Candidates must have at least 3 years experience in cinematic animation for games, and a strong understanding of the fundamentals of traditional animation. The candidate must also have experience with creating storyboards, directing and editing mo-cap, and directing and inspiring a team of highly talented individuals.
Education and Experience
Post secondary program in 2D/3D animation is preferred.
At least 3 years of experience of visual production for games/television/film.
3+ years of game development experience would be an asset.
In-depth technical knowledge of 3D Studio Max would be an asset.
Experience with mo-cap would be an asset.
Skills / Abilities / Knowledge / Personal Suitability
Ability to bring visual excellence to a story idea.
Plan the production schedule for a team to complete large body of work.
Ability to direct others to achieve visual excellence on time and on budget.
Knowledge of directing Motion Capture an asset.
Must be able to lead in a team environment, and be able to give progress updates.
Insight into animation pipeline and game engine implementation an asset.
An understanding of human and animal anatomy is an asset.
Passion for animation and gaming is required.
Duties
Develop compelling storyboards for game cinematics.
Direct others to animate dynamic, believable, and appealing characters and cameras for cinematic excellence.
Be fully responsible for a body of work, seeing it through to completion, in a timely manner, and to the highest quality possible.
As a member of a team, you must be able to both give and receive critiques on cinematic work. Ensure work is executed at highest quality possible across the team.
Clearly communicate your progress to you supervisor, and work with the team to achieve cinematic excellence.

Examples of various animations applied to humanoid figures and animal figures
Examples of Motion capture direction
2D portfolio (no originals please)
Storyboarding skills
Figure drawing
Color work
All portfolios must contain a detailed shot breakdown of the work. It must be very clear what you, the applicant, are responsible for in your reel, screenshots, scanned pictures, web page portfolio, etc.
