National Space Centre is looking for 3D Animator (2 positions)
duration - 6-12 Months
Job details: The National Space Centre is the only visitor attraction dedicated to space in the UK and has over 200,000 visitors a year. Our mission focuses on communicating various aspects of space science, planetary science and astronomy to the public and schools.
Our in-house production department is currently seeking two additional 3D animators to work on a major international Fulldome animation project.
Fulldome video is a relatively new medium that is fast replacing the traditional "stars on the ceiling" approach to the planetarium experience. Using multiple high resolution video playback systems and projectors, and surround sound, the audience is immersed in a 360 degree animated environment.
The team has recently won a major international contract, competing with the industry leaders, to produce a complete new show for a North American science centre.
Successful applicants will be highly motivated with excellent all round skills,
be able to take direction, and work as part of a team.
The selected candidates' roles will include:
-Modelling and texturing of spacecraft, stellar and astronomical phenomena
-Animating and lighting of scenes
-Creating particle system and volumetric effects
-Use of specialist plug-ins and rendering software unique to Fulldome video
Requirements:
-An excellent working knowledge of 3D Studio Max (other relevant software experience will be considered)
-The creation of detailed models and textures to a high standard
-Create and animate complex environments incorporating volumetrics and particle systems
-Ability to light scenes and environments to a high standard
Beneficial:
-Knowledge of advanced lighting and rendering techniques
-Use of advanced particle systems and dynamics, particle flow, and thinking particles
-Experience of Final Render Stage-1, Afterburn, Pyrocluster
All levels of experience will be considered, including recent graduates
Contract duration: April 2007 - March 2008
Starting salary is dependent upon experience
