This is a full-time, probationary-track position which may become permanent upon successful completion of a probationary period.
HOURS: MONDAY - FRIDAY, 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.
SALARY RANGE: $3,510.00 - $5,265.00 PER MONTH
NOTE: It is the general practice of Sacramento State, to hire at the lower end of the salary range. (This does not apply to promotions of on-campus employees.)
BENEFITS/FLSA: This position is covered by health benefits, and is non-exempt (eligible for overtime compensation) according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: Entry to this classification requires foundation knowledge in the principles and techniques of artistic and graphic design as well as demonstrated design and artistic skills. This knowledge and skill normally is obtained through a college degree in graphic design, fine arts, or a related field or through technical experience and/or relevant coursework. In addition, strong communication skills and the ability to use and maintain currency with applicable computer software packages and systems are essential.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Demonstrated proficiency in the current versions of the following design software: InDesign; Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver. Strong organizational skills and strong skills in English language spelling and grammar. Previous professional experience required; must present portfolio of printed pieces. Working knowledge of all phases of the printing process from pre-press to bindery. Working knowledge of web design principles, web graphics and web page construction. Ability to work on multiple projects during one time frame.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: The Graphic Designer II?independently and with limited artistic direction?creates original design for University publications, other print collateral, and web pages. Projects include (but are not limited to) magazines, posters, ads, brochures, newsletters, web pages, web graphics, etc. Designer works with a diverse range of University clients, including faculty, administrators, staff and students. Designer works closely with campus and regional printers to ensure high quality, sophisticated print representation for the University.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Operating on a Mac platform, works independently with limited artistic direction creating and executing sophisticated graphic designs for promotional and/or instruction communication materials such as magazines, brochures, posters, ads, web pages, web graphics, etc.
Creatively executes graphic design through a variety of methods.
Consults with administrators, staff, faculty and students on determining communication concept and how to convey to concept in the most effective manner. Incorporates revisions as requires/requested.
Integrates thorough understanding of printing processes.
Researches art resources using the Internet; prepares all files for electronic transfer.
Works independently to manage concurrent projects and manage multiple priorities.
Assists with training student interns.
Researches and develops all relevant printing and production specifications and responsible for bidding jobs for outside printing and/or bindery services for large University printing projects.
Works independently with vendors to assure quality control and timely completion of a variety of projects.
Assists departments with budgeting for projects, offering time-saving or cost efficient methods for project completion.
Reviews projects for quality control, proof-reading, and compliance with established University standards.
Responsible for backup, storage and organization of department archives and originals.
Serves as primary liaison with campus printing office, providing technical support and equipment purchase recommendations.
Requires extensive knowledge of professional printing processes and procedures.
