Performance Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Associate Dean, New Media Center, this is a lead position for developing and authoring interactive multimedia programs; developing multimedia presentations and computer graphics; working with team(s) of faculty, content experts, instructional design specialists, media producers, and production staff to develop multimedia programs and systems related to curriculum development; prepare graphics, text, and media for on-line and networking services; perform other related duties as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
a. Lead and direct the distance learning staff and activities in the development and authoring of multimedia and web-based applications; act as a multimedia consultant to faculty and staff and provide in-service training on multimedia technologies and applications.
b. Organize, plan, and oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of technology for the college's on-line instructional programs and courses.
c. Provide technical support for faculty in the planning and development of online courses; plan and develop technical criteria to implement online instruction; develop and implement processes and procedures to facilitate online instruction; write systems specifications or documentation for development of instructional support applications.
d. Digitize a variety of media sources, creating graphics, fonts, and graphical user interfaces; and incorporate numerous elements into multimedia programs.
e. Assist in the development of interactive multimedia flow chart designs.
f. Develop multimedia presentations for a variety of settings and for multi platform distribution.
g. Design and create computer graphics to be incorporated into print, multimedia and video and prepare graphics, text, and media for on-line networks and services; render graphics and video effects to video and electronic media.
h. Maintain software and computer system network for non-linear editing and computer graphics system.
i. Assist in preparing training plans and instructional materials for training classes, keeping up with industry news and trends.
j. Oversee the installation, testing, and preventive maintenance on a wide variety of network peripherals, computers, and software.
k. Recommend systems and programming standards, security, and quality assurance procedures; assist in the definition and projection of future needs and requirements.
l. Work with administration to coordinate activities, budgets, equipment, and staff related to the support of online learning and other related grants.
m. Participate in distance learning consortia and other groups related to multimedia, as assigned.
n. Perform other related job duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Faculty/Educational Administrators complete the Equivalency Application only if you do not meet the minimum qualifications for the position you are applying to, and you wish to be considered. Knowledge of:
1. Computer based training, specifically interactive multimedia technology and authoring systems/languages.
2. Multimedia strategies for interactive training programs and a variety of advanced technological applications used for training (flowchart/linkage design).
3. Systems used for integrating hardware and software packages to design and deliver courseware.
4. Multimedia technical standards required for national multimedia distribution.
5. Software programs for video graphics, video non-linear editing, and video effects programs.
6. On-line and network systems and software.
Ability to:
7. Lead and coordinate activities and staff in the development and authoring of multimedia and web-based applications for the college; organize workloads and meet deadlines.
8. Organize, plan, and oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of technology for the college?s online instructional programs and courses.
9. Plan and develop technical criteria to implement online instruction and administrate instructional servers in the New Media Center.
10. Develop and implement multimedia interactive programs for multi platform distribution.
11. Assist in the development of multimedia flow charts.
12. Design and program multimedia presentations incorporating a variety of media, including design and creation of computer graphics.
13. Design, organize and implement in-service training plans and train others in networks and multimedia system applications.
14. Render graphics and effects to video and electronic media.
15. Install, troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct software and hardware for use on interactive video systems.
16. Liaison with vendors regarding hardware and software needs; troubleshoot and recommend modifications.
17. Create systems specifications for interactive multimedia technology applications.
18. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
19. Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the performance of job duties and to work effectively and cooperatively as part of a team.
Education and Experience:
20. Completion of at least two years of college-level education directly related to business information systems, computer science, or data processing.
21. Five years of progressively responsible work experience in the field of computer science, including at least one year in multimedia instructional computer support activities.
22. Or, any combination of education and experience that would provide the required qualifications.
Conditions of Employment
This is a temporary, full-time, 12-month per year specially funded position. The normal hours of work will be 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position is currently funded through June 30, 2007; however the District reserves the right to extend, modify, or eliminate the position based upon available funds.

8. What experience do you have with using various software programs such as Photoshop, Flash, HTML code, XML, 3d-Studio, Maya, Light wave, Cold Fusion PHP, ASP, PowerPoint, and/or other Web development and graphics software?
Salary Range $5,849 (Step 1) - $7,125 (Step 5)

Pay Philosophy
Starting salaries for support staff positions begin at Step-1 of the salary range. Employees hired prior to April 1 of each year will move to the next step on the upcoming July 1. Employees hired on or after April 1 of each year will move to the next step the following July 1. All movement on the salary schedule will occur July 1 of each year for all classified employees.
