MGA ENTERTAINMENT is leading the revolution in family and children's entertainment, developing a broad range of proprietary and licensed products by using new technologies never before applied to its products. The company's diverse product line features award-winning fashion dolls and accessories, remote control action vehicles, special feature push, interactive dolls, electronic handheld and virtual reality games, girl's lifestyle products, home dr, stationary, sporting goods, and consumer electronics.
MISSION: To meet company objectives for revenue, marketshare and profitability by conceptualizing, developing and launching electronic games products.
POSITION REQUIRMENTS:
? Passion for electronic games and knowledge of games industry
? At least 3 years experience in one of the following:
? Product management or project management, ideally in consumer electronic devices, electronic games or electronic toys, but candidates with PM experience in other retail products will be considered.
? Producer or Associate Producer experience in Games industry.
? College degree preferred, preferably in technical or marketing discipline
? Creative background The ideal candidate will augment their strong PM/Producer/Project Management skills with passion and experience even at the hobby level in Music, Film, Videogames, Art or other endeavor that emphasizes creative thought and out of the box thinking.
AUTHORITY:
? Reports to GM of Interactive and Electronic Games
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY
? Project Management - Strong project management skills to organize and lead multiple complex technical products involving multiple internal and external parties in multiple geographies and complete project on time, on budget and on spec.
? Product conceptualization and design Ability to merge knowledge of customers, market, retail channel, technology, competitors and business objectives to identify market opportunities and define new product proposals.
? Business analysis Ability to analyze and manage product line financials including revenue, profitability, marketshare and development and manufacturing costs.
? Marketing messaging Ability to synthesize complex information on industry/category trends, customer trends, competitive trends into clear and simple product messaging and positioning statements.
? Product Evangelism Ability to generate internal and external enthusiasm for new products through passion and strong oral, written, presentation communication skills.
? Cross functional coordination Ability to work effectively with all functions including executive, finance, legal, marketing, sales, packaging, manufacturing operations and vendors located in multiple geographical locations.
? Game product design Ability to define gameplay at the GDD level, understand what makes games fun and work with games design studios and development studios to conceptualize gameplay and translate into design docs and ultimately working product.
? Vendor sourcing, qualification & management Proactively locate external vendors to provide game design, development, graphics services, qualify vendors. Manage quote process to choose vendors, work with management and legal to determine terms and create contract and manage external resource to contract terms.
? Change management Ability to quickly implement or react to changes, understanding impact to all functions with concise, clear communication to affected stakeholders to execute change in plan.
KEY RESULT AREAS:
Set and exceed product line business objectives (Umbrella goal over all below):
a. Set business goals Work with GM, Exec, Sales to set target goals for product line revenue, profitability, growth, marketshare and other financial measures
b. Exceed Goals Develop Product, Marketing Plans and Sales training programs to enable product line to meet or exceed business objectives.
New Product Definition:
a. Industry Analysis - Research industry, category and competitive environment to define a clear picture of trends and market opportunities.
b. Customer Analysis Research and understand customers to define customer needs, interests and trends. Conduct focus group and informal product testing with kids to identify future product ideas and trends.
c. Channel Analysis Understand sales force, buyer and retail channel needs
d. Competitive Analysis Understand competitive products not only direct competitors but similar products from other media (ie Web) or even past products that may not be electronic, but have similar play patterns.
e. User Experience Must have clear understanding of what makes games fun, addictive and social not only for electronic games, but for all games whether physical, web or other.
f. Business Analysis Understand corporate business objectives, product financial objectives.
g. Technology Analysis Understand technology available both in hardware and software as well as costing of hardware and manufacturing.
h. Product Definition Synthesize market, customer and business information into statement of market opportunity and clear definition of product or product lines necessary to exploit the opportunity.
i. Product Evangelism Communicate and sell product vision throughout the organization both for product definition and business/financial opportunity leading to product funding and greenlight.
Project Management
a. Product definition documents Create GDD and other product documents necessary to clearly communicate product requirements to all parties.
b. Technical design Define technical requirements or direct vendors in design and solutions to meet product requirements
c. Project financials Support planning and operations to develop targets and projections for product development cost, manufacturing cost and projections of revenue, profitability, margins, investment.
d. Project schedule Support planning, ops, manufacturing, developers in creating and managing a comprehensive project schedule.
e. Project process Coordinate communications between all project stakeholders to track progress against project delivery schedule, spec and cost targets. Involve and communicate to all stakeholders as changes, prioritization and tradeoffs are made in the development process.
f. Vendor selection Choose vendors for product development through competitive bid process.
g. User experience and Quality Ensure that product meets standards for ease of use, setup, experience and overall Quality. Coordinate focus groups to validate product user experience and design.
h. Technical support and coordination Work as liason between chip and component vendors, developers, manufacturing in design, specification, troubleshooting and manufacturing for complex electronic products.
i. Check test pilot of products to ensure good quality and product improvements.
j. Launch Ensure that project is launched on time, spec and cost
Marketing (Messaging, Packaging, Sales training):
a. Research trends and similar products in the market utilizing trst and other data.
b. Get to know the product intimately; take personal ownership of the product.
c. Develop creative strategy for the product.
d. Develop detail marketing plan for the product line which includes minimum quota, sales forecast, P&L;, product costing.
e. Oversee and direct packaging and instruction manual. Make sure the packaging is developed creatively with the right copy.
f. Prepare and recommend promotional and advertising strategy.
g. Train sales force on the product.
h. Oversee public relations on product line.
i. Manage and recommend brands.
j. Create in-store displays and point of purchase.
k. Oversee creative strategy on TV promoted products.
l. Prepare and conduct line review.
m. Work with licensers for product approval. Prepare and keep accurate records of approval process.
n. Communicate effectively and timely with Hong Kong product development team.
