Position Description: College of the Canyons is seeking applicants for the professional opportunity of a tenure-track position in Animation for the Fall 2007 semester. Application packet needs to be received by the first review date of May 4, 2007.
Duties of the Position: In addition to teaching a full range of Animation courses, this instructor will have lead responsibilities for the Animation Program. Such responsibilities include but are not limited to: scheduling classes; updating and developing curriculum; submitting Animation Program for departmental, college and state reviews; recruiting students; organizing fundraising opportunities; working with industry partners to develop school-to-work opportunities; and working with other Design, Visual/Fine Arts and Technology faculty to promote the department as a whole. Other faculty responsibilities involve college decision-making activities related to professional and academic matters. These activities will occur both within the department as well as in the larger college setting. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a California Community College Instructor Credential in the appropriate area
OR Bachelor’s degree or higher plus 2 years of experience in Animation
OR an Associate’s degree plus 6 years of experience in Animation OR the equivalent.
The following are the equivalencies accepted: Equivalency #6: Associate degree in any discipline and course work equivalent to a major in the discipline of the assignment, plus six years of occupational experience related to the discipline of the assignment or six years of teaching experience in the discipline of the assignment, plus appropriate certification to practice or licensure or its equivalent, if available.
Equivalency #7: College work equivalent to an Associate degree major in the discipline of the assignment, plus eight years of occupational experience related to the discipline of the assignment or eight years of teaching experience in the discipline of the assignment, plus appropriate certification or licensure or its equivalent, if available.
Equivalency #8: High school diploma plus completion of a training program with certification in appropriate discipline and two (2) courses in teaching methodology and six (6) years of work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Abilities: Recent experience as a professional animator. Current partnerships with the Animation industry. Commitment to keeping the department current with industry standards.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Abilities: Skilled in both traditional and computer animation. Experience with computer graphics and software that is used in creating 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional animation. Previous teaching and/or training experience. Experience working for one or more of the major studios. Knowledge of course and/or curriculum development. Commitment to maintain currency in the discipline, including use of advanced technology required in the discipline. Strong commitment to professional growth and development and to the continued innovation and improvement of teaching. Ability to work effectively with computers and other forms of advanced technology utilized in providing high quality instruction and the understanding and successful use of learning technology. Willingness to facilitate student’s learning by working to develop varied and innovative learning environments. Ability and willingness to teach a wide range of classes as schedules and institutional commitments require. Ability to communicate clearly with students and staff, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both on-campus groups (including students, faculty, administrators and staff) as well as off-campus community and education partners. In addition to being well qualified to teach in their respective disciplines, it is desirable that faculty have additional abilities and interests in contributing to other professional pursuits at the College, such as: instructional innovation, second language ability, sponsoring clubs, coaching sports, new program development, student success initiatives and community or high school outreach. Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, ethnic and disability backgrounds of community college students.
