Production Support Technician (ATD)
Award winning animation studio, LAIKA Inc, based in Portland Oregon
and owned by Phil Knight, co-founder and chairman of Nike, is seeking a
Production Support Technician for its Research & Development Group.
Laika is currently in production on the Animated Feature Film “Coraline”, based
on the novel by Neil Gaiman, written for the screen & directed by Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas, James
and The Giant Peach). In addition the studio has several projects currently in
development including “Jack & Ben” and Alan Snow's "Here Be
Monsters".
Laika's Research & Development Department have many pioneering initiatives
including:
- building tools and pipeline for Stereoscopic Production (Coraline is the
first Stop-Motion Animated Feature to be shot in Stereo);
- developing new tools to assist in the integration of Computer and Stop-Motion
Animation;
- building from the ground up several types of production pipelines;
- creating tools to assist and aid Computer Animation Production.
The Production Support Technician works with Software Developers, Pipeline
Engineers and Technical Directors to validate and quality check bug fixes and
feature requests before software is released to production. They work closely with
the Show Build TD and Production Management to stay current on production
priorities and provide a first line of defense for (and investigation into)
production issues.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Test bug fixes and features in production environment before release to show.
- Validate bugs/ technical support requests with production artist as a
preliminary evaluator.
- Act as a point of contact for production clients, providing reliable
communication and follow-through.
- Ensure the accuracy of the production issue database, by entering,
maintaining, and verifying data for software bug fixes and feature requests.
- Provide verbal and written data, and produce reports, to help ensure the
department operates efficiently and maximizes resources.
- Disseminate status / information in various forms, including updates to web
pages.
Minimum Qualifications and Abilities:
- B.S., B.A. or equivalent
- Proficiency with at least one of the following applications: Maya, Renderman,
Houdini, or Shake
- Proficiency with MS Office and database software.
- Strong oral, interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to juggle various priorities and deadlines in a fast paced
environment
- Proactive, detail oriented, problem solver
Preferred Abilities and Knowledge:
- Prior production experience
