Job details: Position General Purpose:
Reporting to the Office of Vice President and Secretary, this position will develop and oversee strategic plans for the creation, implementation, and marketing of University-produced digital content through netcasting and other media.
This new University initiative is designed to increase distribution of Yale's intellectual materials such as lectures, interviews and music through web platforms, and to advance the global reputation of the University through its digital offerings. The position will be responsible for managing the day to day administrative aspects of the initiative's operation. This role will have the potential to exercise independent judgement and initiatives with wide latitude, and to expand along with the University's digital plans.
The Director will work closely with a Center for Media Initiatives 2-based Webcast Producer and the Office of Public Affairs to oversee the thorough and timely execution of the netcast production, approval, and distribution process.
Essential Duties:
1. Develop a strategic plan for University netcast initiatives and manage its implementation. Gather and analyze information and make appropriate recommendations.
2. Represent the Secretary in advancing podcast/netcast interests in discussions with University departments (including the Museums, Association of Yale Alumni, Athletics, Development, etc.).
3. Serve as the University's representative on the netcast initiative.
4. Develop and maintain the standards for Yale's netcast productions in conjunction with CMI2 , and offer training to key liaisons at each School and Center.
5. Identify and recommend to University leaders those events, lecturers, etc. which should be recorded and posted as podcasts.
6. Manage the strategic selection, creation, and marketing of content from Yale for dissemination through various digital platforms including podcast and other internet-based distribution systems.
7. Work with University schools, centers, and departments to develop original content specifically for digital distribution that supports University and/or departmental initiatives.
8. Serve as liaison between Yale entities and CMI2/OPA to coordinate content development, to clarify and analyze content, and to assist with approval procedures.
9. Supervise a staff of Fellows on one-year or short-term appointments.
10. Assist University schools, centers, and departments undertaking their own netcast 'series.'
Education and Experience:
Required: Bachelor's Degree and five years of relevant work experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred: Seven to ten years of relevant work experience.
Skills and Abilities:
1. Exceptional organizational and project management skills.
2. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
3. Ability to successfully navigate within a large organization.
4. Ability to effectively communicate with and work across multiple departments.
5. Strong understanding of the podcast platform and its applications for content.
6. Preferred: Familiarity with the Yale University community; experience/familiarity with video/audio production.
