Job details:
Summary of Position: The Layout Artist is responsible for creating camera compositions of the story reel using temporary sets and characters, and creating sequences of shots that convey the story through the application of traditional filmmaking principles in a 3D computer graphics environment. He/she is also responsible for establishing character blocking, camera positioning and camera movement, and working with existing storyboards to recreate and/or enhances the story through cinematic layout of shots.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide production ready assets that animation, lighting and FX can use to begin their functions within the overall pipeline
- Interaction with supervisors and leads to realize director’s vision
- Establish character blocking/poses, composition and cinematography
- Responsible for the continuity and flow within and between shots and sequences
- File management – organize work/files efficiently
Qualifications Include:
- Strong skills in layout (planning and asset management), animation & cinematography are required
- Basic understanding of modeling and lighting
- Knowledge of XSI or Maya are preferable
- A minimum of two years film or television experience
- Good understanding of character posing
- Degree/diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience an asset
- Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
- Able to multi-task and prioritize
- Thrive in a high pressure, deadline oriented environment
- Enjoy working in teams and is good at following directions
