Summary of Position:
To work with the Art Director and Lead Character Designer to design the film’s main and secondary characters, taking into account any styles, directions, and guidance set down by the Art Director and Lead Character Designer.
Responsibilities Include:
- Have experience interfacing with designers, artists, and programmers.
- To utilize their design experience to design characters which hit the quality bar, and vision of the production designer, and the goals of the production.
- Self-management and reviewing one's own schedule and the schedule of peers is required, as is notifying production of any tasks that may be missing or improperly specified.
- Work with Art Director and Lead Character designer to create engaging and performable characters.
- Ability to create compelling characters which can be modeled in 3D, and which serve the goals of the production’s story.
Qualifications Include:
- 3+ years in character designer position – preferably on a feature length production
- BA/BFA Degree in Fine Arts or Commercial Arts Field. (Asset, not necessarily required.)
- A strong understanding of design and the issues inherent in creating compelling characters for a 3D CGI feature length production, worthy of a theatrical release.
- Must have strong 2-D character and creature design experience.
- Must have worked on at least 2 titles
- Experience in multimedia content, film and television work an asset.
- 3D design and modeling experience an asset.
- Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and multi-tasking skills.
- Proven abilities in managing projects from concept to completion.

“Escape from Planet Earth,” is a CG-animated comedy feature about a prison break where the prison is actually Area 51, a mysterious government facility where the inmates are a rag-tag group of aliens from every corner of the universe. Gary, a neurotic alien hero must overcome his fears and self-doubt to lead a daring escape, not only from Area 51, but from the Earth itself where no alien dares to go as not a single one has ever returned.
