Job details:
Position: Lead Animator
The Lead Animator is responsible for providing technical support, defining animation aesthetics and communicating a unique vision for pushing the envelope in creating higher standards for character performance and realism. The Lead Animator will have experience in creating believable and stylistic character animation for a game engine, and the ability to work and collaborate with designers and programmers to create amazing character movement in the game. Role involves overseeing and mentoring other animators.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support in general for the Character / Rigging / Animation team.
- Fluent Problem Solving - Constantly strive to optimize and enhance an effective animation pipeline.
- Identifying workflow improvements, providing and directing trouble-shooting efforts for the animation team.
- Give creative direction and criticism where needed for all in-game character assets, animation and cut scenes that convey character and personality.
- Liaise closely with Programming teams to develop pipelines including blend tree systems and optimal rigs.
- Organize and manage the Character animation team including scheduling.
- Mentoring and inspiring your team and colleagues.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- 5+ years previous experience in an animation related position in gaming or related industry with a mix of realistic and stylized motion.
- 2+ years of team lead experience, with an ability to manage and anticipate the needs of artists.
- Thorough and solid understanding of animation theory and principles.
- Excellent task management skills.
- Highly proficient in 2D/3D art packages including MAYA, Motion Builder etc.
- Expert in blend tree systems and how the use of blend tree systems influence animation created.
- Extensive knowledge of motion capture practices.
- Forward-thinking ability to research new industry developments and art techniques for future projects.
- Diplomatic and inspirational communicator, open to feedback and constructive evaluation.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Degree/diploma/certificate or demonstrated skills in 3D animation.
- Experience in cross-platform development, but not mandatory.
- Passion for playing games.
