In collaboration with Student Affairs professional staff, the Instructional Designer is responsible for designing, creating, maintaining, and evaluating Web-based learning modules for students at all Penn State campuses. Assist staff to write and assess measurable learning objectives, and guide the design of assessment of on-line student learning in collaboration with the Director of Student Affairs Research and Assessment. Coordinate production of educational program content by Student Affairs staff at all Penn State locations and develop content as required using appropriate graphics, animation, video, audio and simulation tools. Deploy learning modules, along with communications and evaluation strategies, within the University’s course management system and in ancillary media including Web-cast technology and print. Support ongoing development of ePortfolio technology applied as a co-curricular learning tool for students. The Instructional Designer will report to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and serve as a liaison between the Student Affairs Division at University Park, Student Affairs offices at Penn State campuses/colleges and the University’s World Campus. Requires Master’s degree plus two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in Instructional Systems, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related discipline. Experience in designing and developing on-line courses and programs is required. Expertise is expected in illustration software (such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator), multimedia software (such as Macromedia Director and Flash), and course management systems (such as ANGEL, WebCT, or Blackboard). Demonstrated commitment to quality and innovation is essential. The successful candidate will also demonstrate an interest in and ability to develop subject matter expertise in educational program content related to the educational mission of Student Affairs departments.
