Job details: DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATEThe Harlem School of the Arts, Inc. The Harlem School of the Arts, Inc. (HSA) is a nonprofit, community-based school of the arts that offers instruction in dance, music, theater and the visual arts to over 3,000 students annually. Our mission is to enrich the lives of children through exposure to and education in the arts. HSA offers instruction onsite to children ages 4 through 18 from Harlem, Upper Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Westchester, New Jersey and Connecticut, and we serve over 1,200 students in 17 NYC public schools throughout the City through our unique arts-based After-school programs.HSA seeks an experienced, motivated, energetic individual to raise individual, corporate, foundation and government funding. The Development Associate will manage fundraising recruitment programs and increase the school’s visibility. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Writing, editing, formatting and assembling proposal applications for timely submission.
- Gathering, maintaining and formatting required documents for grant applications.
- Preparing budgets, budget narratives and formatting budgets for grant applications, as necessary.
- Collaborate with Communications & Marketing Director to develop organization-wide publicity, marketing and outreach activities, and implementing those that support resource development.
- Work with the Board and staff to meet the institution’s fundraising goals as determined by the President & CEO and Board of Directors.
- Contribute to the implementation of a Strategic Fundraising Plan with the goal of diversifying funding sources, enhancing planned giving and increasing HSA’s endowment.
- Work with Director of Development on Annual Report and other institutional publications.
Assist in organizing HSA’s annual Art is Life gala benefit and donor cultivation events.
- Assist with the production of annual appeals.
- Manage the donor database, which includes processing gifts and acknowledgements, generating reports and solicitation lists and data and grant information entry.
- Record donations and generate acknowledgements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree with five years experience or more in development or a related area; Master’s degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and development applications such as Raiser’s Edge.
- Experience with non-profit or community organizations.
- A strong interest in working with artists and their audiences and to work in a collaborative multi-cultural setting.
- Excellent research, writing and communication skills; outstanding managerial ability is essential.
- Strong, detail-oriented project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, work independently and meet deadlines
- Must be able to accommodate a flexible schedule.
