Position Summary
As a senior technical writer, you will work closely with our writing, design, and engineering staff to develop and write online documentation and user manuals for Autodesk Plant products. You will plan, research, write, edit, and test documentation for Help systems, interactive tutorials, and printed materials. You will work independently in a fast-paced environment and can manage multiple project assignments with minimal supervision. You will provide input to overall project direction and team or department strategies. Preference is given to candidates who have experience with AutoCAD or other Autodesk products.
Responsibilities:
* Ensure that documentation is technically accurate and conforms to internal and professional style standards.
* Maintain an excellent relationship with members of software development, product design, quality assurance, product management, and others.
* Plan, research, write, edit, and test content for print and online delivery.
* Develop new content based on marketing and user requirements, technical specifications, design prototypes, project meetings, and customer feedback. Revise existing documentation as needed.
* Define scope of work; estimate and monitor schedule requirements.
* Modify and meet delivery requirements in spite of scope changes and tight deadlines.
* Determine the use of illustrations. Work independently or with illustrators to plan and develop illustrations.
* Manage the technical review process to ensure content accuracy and completeness.
* Make appropriate changes and checks prior to delivery.
* Identify obstacles to documentation progress and assume responsibility for effectively communicating concerns and finding solutions.
* Keep up with industry trends and tools, and offer ways to improve documentation and processes.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Technical Writing Manager or Lead Writer(s).
Requirements:
* 5-7 years professional technical writing experience at a senior level.
* Experience in the CAD software industry and authoring and designing sophisticated Help systems.
* Experience using XML, HTML, Structured FrameMaker, Flash, and other documentation development tools.
* Experience documenting highly technical software clearly and concisely for both printed and online delivery.
* Experience working in a content management system.
* In-depth understanding of technical writing concepts and standards, localization requirements, and the needs of the customer.
* Ability to work independently and with others while maintaining a flexible, enthusiastic, team-oriented approach.
* Excellent time-management skills. Ability to prioritize assignments to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously and with minimal supervision.
* Illustration, graphics, and production skills highly desired.
Education:
* Equivalent of a Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Engineering, or related field.
