Job details:
LAIKA Entertainment is seeking a Modeling Supervisor to join our growing studio.
The Modeling Supervisor is the primary point person for all modeling work as determined by the needs of production. This individual aligns creative and production management efforts to define and lead the modeling team in the creation and implementation of all geometry assets for the production.
The Modeling Supervisor works in concert with the Head of Surfacing, studio technology, fellow supervisors and production management to conceptualize, identify, estimate, schedule, monitor, and oversee the production. This person helps to ensure all geometry assets are of the highest quality possible, while remaining within budget and on schedule.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
With the production leader develops appropriate solutions to modeling in support of the visual style and narrative of the production.
Provide leadership for the Modeling team. Foster individual career development and overall departmental growth. Work to unify, inspire, and motivate the Modeling Department personnel. Actively pursue team building opportunities and encourage collaboration.
Partner with production management and human resources to identify and resolve personnel issues. Assist with performance reviews and personnel feedback for the modeling department. Manage and pro-actively resolve departmental relations issues
Actively participate in recruiting, training and casting Modeling Department personnel.
Assist in the design and implementation of the production process and pipeline.
Assist the Head of Surfacing in specification, testing and implementation of all required tools for the Modeling Department.
Assist the Head of Surfacing in the continued development of modeling tools and processes.
Provide information to the Head of Surfacing on developments, concerns, and potential problems within the department.
Assist in bids, breakdowns, and defining production quotas and schedules by working with the Head of Surfacing and Production Management.
Communicate priorities, issues and pertinent information effectively to production and technology leadership as well as within the Modeling Department
Minimum Qualifications
A comprehensive understanding of and extensive experience in the creation and use of geometry assets throughout the entirety of a CG feature production.
5+ years of Feature Film (CG) experience.
Previous supervisory or leadership role overseeing artists and technicians.
Strong Communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience.
Demonstrated ability using high end 3D tools for the creation of both hard surface and organic models.
Ability to troubleshoot technical problems and familiarity with scripting.
