General Summary

Under the supervision of Design Director, the Senior Designer supports several key areas: Marketing, Production, Purchasing, and International (Brussels, Japan, and Hong Kong). Design impactful and innovative Seasonal packaging for US and global market.

Principal Accountabilities
1. Concept & design development for Global Packaging - 40%
2. Prepare pre-press mechanical and turnover to Creative Production - 20%
3. Interact with Production & Purchasing Depts. on approval of final production and press runs - 5%
4. Ensure cost effectiveness of design - 5%
5. Hire and manage freelancers 10%
6. Provide seasonal comps to Production & Purchasing, Marketing, and International Dept - 10%
7. Compile useful packaging information to support Production & Purchasing Dept. - 5%
8. Attend press-run - 5%

Job Complexity
Creating impactful, unique, commercially appealing packaging to increase seasonal sales and yet maintains Godiva's classic and luxurious essence.
Producing luxurious and differentiated packaging with challenging budgets
Meeting aggressive design turnover timelines and still producing innovative, fresh and unique design
Supporting Production/Purchasing Dept. and delivering packaging to stores on time while accommodating several rounds of revisions.
Meeting design criteria from Creative, Marketing as well as International while ensuring consistency of design globally.
Hiring talented artists/freelancers to support the high expectations of our organization.




Job Specifications
Minimum Education Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Packaging/Graphic Design

Years of relevant experience: 5-7 years
Knowledge, skills and Abilities required:
Proficient in: Mac In-Design, Illustrator, and Photoshop
Basic sketching and comping
At least 5-7 years experience in print design
Understanding of press approvals
Understanding of color separation process
Excellent time Management skills
Special Skills:
Ability to manage heavy project load from conception through production within tight deadlines
Extremely well-organized
Work quickly and efficiently under tight timeframe

Breathe of Knowledge:
Excellent Creative Judgment
Must demonstrate an awareness of packaging, fashion, and promotion trends

Multi-National Responsibility and Languages:
Focus of responsibility is in North America. Strong English communication skills are required.
Secondary languages are viewed as positive.

Management of People:
Direct management of Freelance people
Strong inter-personal and cross-functional project management skills are critical

Contacts and Communication:
Internal contact with entire Godiva management and cross-functional teams
External contact with Printers, Separators, Illustrators

Working Conditions
Monthly day trips which could extend beyond traditional work hours. For example, traveling to Reading via bus or train, which would depart as early as 6AM and return as late as 9PM.
Occasional (5-10 times/year) domestic overnight travel (1-5 nights stay).
