First Course
General Blender Techniques, Tips and Tricks
During this course, trainees will develop, edit, model and produce their own small 3d film. Starting with writing the script and developing their characters they will animate them and bring them to life in just one week of lessons. Even though TOSMI is designed as a training program for professionals in open source media software, an applicant does not have to be familiar with such animation software like 3d studio max or maya, but should possess essential artistic skills and familiarity with media software.
Each day represents two session, a morning session and afternoon session.
day 1
Introduction to open source software,
Choosing Hardware,
Introduction to Subversion and Trac (content and pipeline management system)
Introduction to Blender
day 2
Modeling I (simple and advanced mesh modeling)
Modeling II (Curves, Nurbs, and Modifiers)
day 3
Animation I (introduction to animation and modifiers)
Character Animation (Character designing, Rigging, Animating,)
day 4
Materials and Lights (Introduction to materials and Lights)
Lighting and Rendering (Rendering Strategies and lighting tactics)
day 5
Rendering and Compositing (Introduction to compositing)
Compositing (3d content and live content compositing)
Sound editing
Sequencer video editing
day 6
Final session – the Trainees will finish their small movie production.
Second Course
Advanced Blender Techniques for animation and interactivity
During this course, trainees will learn advanced animation techinques taking advantage of Blender’s soft body, fluid, and particle systems. In addition to these animation techniques, they will also be introduced to the blender game engine and the possibilities of extending animation in real-time through python scripting. Trainees will learn these techniques through hands-on instruction which will ultimately lead to a final animation project to be completed by the end of the course.
Each day represents two session, a morning session and afternoon session.

Dynamic simulation techniques (particles, fluids, rigid bodies, soft bodies, force fields)
day 2
Creating interactive content (Games, cross-platform multimedia applications) with Blender
day 3
Using external rendering engines and their Blender integration: Yafray, Freestyle, RenderMan, Indigo
day 4
Using Python modules and Python scripting
day 5
Usage of Collaborative software for production optimization and team management: Verse, DrQueue
day 6
Anaglyph and stereo rendering with Blender
Third Course
Producing media for the web: Open Source Software & web 2.0.
During this course, trainees will learn the benefits of using open source software to deliver media content on the web. Trainees will work in teams to produce their own media rich sites as a means to learning powerful content management software and web 2.0 site design. Approaches to audio and video streaming will also be introduced. This course is ideal for individuals looking to develop their own live and content rich site.
Each day represents two session, a morning session and afternoon session.
