Opportunity
The Contract Technical Writer is responsible for writing programming, installation, setup, and operations documentation for software development and embedded systems products. In addition to writing manuals and help systems, this individual may also be called on to write training, “how to” documents, and product information for the company’s website, press releases, and contracts. The right candidate may be considered for a full-time position.
Responsibilities
· Design and write technical documentation and training materials for a software developer audience.
· Create complete documentation set for software UI (User Guide level), including all graphics, and deliver in printable and electronic formats
· Document API (SDK level), including functional/feature sets, installation guide, and quickstarts, and deliver in electronic format
· Contribute to or write training materials
· Contribute to or write technical white papers
· Contribute to other technical support and marketing efforts, including Knowledge Base articles and technical marketing materials.
Requirements: Preferred Experience and Skills
· Experience writing programming guide and API reference documentation for software engineers.
· Knowledge of basic Internet concepts and ability to read HTML, CSS and XML code.
· Ability to write installation, setup, and operations documentation.
· Experience writing training materials.
· Strong knowledge and demonstrated ability working with Adobe FrameMaker, Quadralay WebWorks or Robohelp, Adobe Acrobat, MS Word, Adobe Illustrator, SnagIt or Paintshop Pro
· 3D software, graphics-oriented software experience needed.
· Experience working within an organized technical writing process that includes style guidelines, editorial cycles, source control, and bug tracking.
· Experience with real-time multimedia application development (game development, Flash, etc.) desirable.
