Hello,
I have a question about rendering a video file:
What settings do I need when I want a video file that can be converted to mp4?
I tried it with .avi and then Microsoft video 1, but that didn't work:O
I'm using 3ds max
Thanks

Try an avi with xvid codec. But you have to install the xvid codec before you try it.
Actually the animations usually are rendered in image sequences, .jpg or .tga format or other image formats depending on the needs with minimum or loss less compression.
Then these sequences are composed with a software like adobe after effects. These compositions can be rendered to any type of avi much quicker then if you try to render it in 3ds max.
What you can also do is use the video post in 3ds max to convert your rendered animation to another format. So that you don't have to wait for the full 3d scene render just to change the avi codec.
