I’m trying to load a gaming application when this message popped up, “Your system is low on virtual memory. Windows is increasing the size of your virtual memory paging file”. I also noticed that my computer frequently lags especially when I’m playing 3d games. Is it time to me to buy more physical RAM?

For normal operation of Windows 7 itself requires 2 GB of RAM. So what to play on the computer should be set at 4 GB.

it means that you have exceeded your allowed memory. So windows is leeching more from your hdd since you no longer have the ram required.

Virtual memory is those which can provide facility to execute a program whose size normally larger than your primary memory. In this case your hard drive can act as primary memory (RAM). So you can run a larger program.
