2D jpeg to 3D model

Hi, total newbie here! ok, simple question, i have a 2d logo in jpeg and want to convert it to a 3d model which i intend to animate at some point in the future. I have bought Sketchup pro on advice for ease of use in this forum, and want to know if i can use it to convert my 2d image to 3d model? Any help will be much appreciated many thanks. I have attached the pic.

I don't work with Sketchup but I suppose it's possible to do it with this program. I use 3dsmax and there I simply use logo picture as a texture on planar. Next what I do is just drawing wireframe over it. It's easy and you see what are you actually doing
