Creating Free Game Objects
How viable is it to create game items using blender for base model and uv mapping, then sculptris for texturing, normal, diffuse, and spec mapping, as well as gimp for any editing of the various maps? then importing and utilizing in blender? if anyone knows a good step by step answer, it would be great

It would be entirely possible to create game assets, using all the software you mention. As for a step by step guide, I am sure doing a google search on creating game assets would bring up plenty of tutorials for you.
