Salary: Commensurate with experience
Universal Robotics is looking for Vision Engineer - 3D Specialist
Starting Date: 11/1/11, duration - Permanent
Job details: Universal Robotics is Automating Intelligence. Universal Robotics creates control system software called Neocortex and sensor bundles including Spatial Vision, which enable machines to learn from experience, react and adapt to their surroundings, and perform tasks that are costly, dangerous or difficult for humans to undertake. Neocortex is a new form of artificial intelligence developed at NASA and Vanderbilt University which couples instantaneous sensor data and long term memory patterns with motor control to increase the flexibility of automation in unstructured environments.
Highly scalable, it is Software with an IQ, useful anywhere the benefits of automation improve efficiency and worker safety, including warehousing, mining, handling hazardous waste and automating vehicles such as forklifts. The first application is in the materials handling supply chain as the control system for a Yaskawa Motoman industrial robot tasked with moving mixed size boxes inside distribution center warehouses. Universal’s sensor expertise has lead to the release of Spatial Vision and Spatial Vision Robotics, which is resold through the world’s largest robotics company – Yaskawa America Inc., Motoman Robotics Division.
Eighty percent of the technical staff have advanced degrees (PhD, MS), and are experts in robotics, vision, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and 3D sensor technologies such as structured light, lasers and stereoscopic vision.
The Job
Universal Robotics is looking for a motivated individual with an in-depth experience in development of computer vision applications – especially someone familiar with machine vision, robotics, and 3D sensor technologies.
Job Description
1. Develop state-of-the-art 3D vision-based robotic applications (e.g., 3D part inspection, 3D robotic vision guidance, etc.) as part of a small, high performance software development team.
2. Develop algorithms to analyze and integrate data from dense 3D point clouds from various sensors.
3. Develop test methodologies for ensuring robustness of vision-based algorithms, analysis, and control algorithms in the context of the customer’s specific application.
4. Work with a team of experts to create a superior solution by giving ideas as well as receiving advice.
Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
• M.S/Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Applied Mathematics.
• Minimum 4 years experience in algorithm implementation using C, C++, or C# (.NET framework).
• A solid engineering background with hands-on experience developing robotics and/or vision systems.
• Understanding of and experience with any of the following: 3D object recognition, real-time machine vision and its application for control of robotic system, pattern recognition, sensor alignment and calibration.
• Strong analytical skills and solid mathematical foundation.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Ability to work independently, without direct supervision.
Beneficial Skills and Experience
• Ability to build/assemble/modify electronic assemblies or robots into various configurations for test purposes.
• Knowledge of software architecture, various programming languages.
• Experience in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
• Experience in creating 3D games.
• Passion for robots.
