If you're looking at using 3d animation programs such as 3ds max or maya then I strongly recommend you get a PC rather than a laptop.

I think you can go to the time you want to set the key, turn on autokey and then scoll the percentage along path number until the object is where you want it for that frame. You should then be able to ...
